Led by Valream on behalf of C&D, this major restructuring project in respect of a former office building is designed by A26 and DGM to house a consortium of digital higher education schools on the banks of the Seine in Courbevoie. The existing structure consists of two U-shaped buildings around a central patio.
Terrell’s Structural division focused on the reinforcement of the existing foundations by means of micropiles, the reinforcement of the existing structures, by waling, jacketing and carbon fibre fabric reinforcement, due to the increase in service loads on the floors, as well as the enhancement of the fire protection of the reinforced concrete structure, to enable the change of use of the building, from the labour law (offices) to buildings open to the public (education), while preserving the major elements of the existing structure, its inherent characteristics. Additional vertical features have been created, such as stairwells and a monumental staircase, to meet the number of additional passageways and emergency exits required due to the increase in the number of persons in the building. In the same approach concerning the well-being of future students, floor extensions on the patio side have been implemented as well as the structural and functional upgrade of the shared staff canteen as well as the creation of an amphitheatre and a fitness room. The roof terraces are planted with vegetation and a roof terrace penthouse has been converted into a meeting space with a view of the Seine.
