Located in the centre of Southampton, the development comprises 48 new studios for student accommodation.

The structure consists primarily of modular, fully fitted student rooms on the upper floors. These modules sit on a braced steel frame at ground floor level, which is designed to create open plan communal areas. There is a reinforced concrete ground floor slab, retaining walls and shallow foundations.

Terrell began working on this project at an early design stage, helping to develop the overall form of the building and defining the structural and civil strategies. Working as part of the design team, we progressed through the technical development stages to produce a cost effective and buildable solution that was fully co-ordinated with the building services and architectural features.

Terrell worked closely with Stelling to analyse and justify the module frame, helping to make the factory assembly process more efficient by using less material and designing connections that were quicker to install.

The project was delivered in BIM using Revit 2022. This provided a useful platform for design co-ordination and allowed complex structural details to be created and visualised in 3D.
