The project was to demolish an existing single-story building and to construct a new two-story extension with basement including a light well and a roof terrace between the Mavis Gotto Building and the adjacent Little School Building.
As the site is compact, the forming of the basement allowed new internal space without compromising the outside play area. The concrete basement fits tightly between 2 existing buildings and is close to a public road so it needed special construction methods and sequences. The main superstructure is also in reinforced concrete.
The roof was designed with induction heat bent steel beams to match the arch of the existing building.
The perimeter canopies are a mixture of steel and timber.
The facades and some internal walls are masonry.
