This project concerns the restructuring of the Louvre post office. The building will accommodate shops, a police station and the post office premises, as well as a crèche, offices, housing and a luxury hotel.
The building envelope comprises multiple styles.
For the street frontages, the existing stone facade is retained, but the glazed areas in the bays are large and are either flat or curved. In the residential areas, the joinery is timber and draws upon the appearance of the existing joinery but with enhanced thermal and acoustic performance. The roof is entirely new with glass, zinc, photovoltaic and thermal solar panel modules.
The courtyard facades are glazed curtain walls and metal cladding. Retained Eiffel portal frames pass through some of these facades. Particular attention was paid to addressing thermal bridges in way of these penetration points. In the courtyard there is also a glass roof that is flame resistant for 30 minutes.
