Reception and Tasting Area at Chateau Gruaud Larose

Saint Julien de Beychevelle, France

Chateau Gruaud Larose is a vineyard located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Gironde. In the Saint-Julien AOC area, it was classified as a Second Growth in the Grand Cru classification of 1855. The castle, with its tower and barn, has been listed as a historical monument.
The project involved a wine-tasting centre with a semi-basement ground floor, consisting of a slab, concrete curtain wall and joinery, and an observation tower with a steel frame supporting mirror-finish expanded stainless steel panels. These panels had to be deburred for the protection of visitors. The bracing of the observation tower is provided by stability crosses arranged around the lift shaft. Windbracing beam at each floor level to limit the torsion effect. Horizontal natural frequency of 1.5 Hz. On the upper level, around the entire periphery, hydraulically-operated outward-opening shutters reveal the surroundings.
