Intermunicipal Building
Vialavert, Le Bez, France
Two-storey building, on micropile foundations, consisting of a reinforced concrete ground floor pedestal supporting the metal frame of the first floor, overhanging on 3 sides (cantilevered spans of 3 m, 4.5 m and 9 m). The first-floor superstructure consists of two Warren/Vierendeel composite steel truss girders, taking up on the bottom chord the floor joists connected to a 12 cm thick composite floor, and on the upper chord the roof frame supporting a ribbed roof deck. The structure was designed and optimised to attain floor and roof edge thicknesses of 440 mm, with the use of gutters recessed into the roof for rainwater recovery. The design of the building was undertaken with consideration of the requirement for dynamic user comfort, with control of the minimum natural frequency.
The cladding consists of a granite veneer mineral fascia.
